The first cat represents two cats: Zowie (5 ½) and Maggie (7/1991-1/2002) Both cats are Siamese mixes. I used the following floss for Zowie/Maggie: WDW White Lightening, Sky, Barn Gray & GAST Slate, Cranberry.
The second cat represents two cats: Calleigh (9 mo) and Emmy (almost 2) Emmy is Calleigh’s kitty mommy. I used the following floss for Calleigh/Emmy: WDW Straw, Amber, Pecan, Sweet Potato, Chestnut, Mulberry & GAST Oatmeal.
The third cat respresents two cats: Muffin (1983-1998) and Ming Chow Toy (1982-1983) The were supposed to be mates but Ming Chow decided to out run a truck hauling wheat. I used the following floss for Muffin/Ming Chow: WDW Chestnut, Pea Coat & GAST Fudge Ripple.
The fourth cat represents two cats Sophie (6 ½) and Templeton (1984-1994). Sophie would love to sit and stitch in the winter but hates when I use my floor stand. Templeton was Muffin's kitten and named after Templeton the rat from the book Charlotte's Web. I used the following floss for Sophie/Templeton: WDW Onyx, White Lightening & GAST Barn Gray, Victorian Pink.
The fifth cat represent Mr. Jynx (7) and is my moms cat that lived with us for 3 months. We called him the troll cat because he moved to the basement and snuck upstairs at night. He is not a very social cat but loves his mama who spoils him. I used the following floss for Mr. Jynx: WDW Pea Coat & GAST Tarnished Gold, Oatmeal.
The sixth cat represents two cats: Squeekers (17) and Fast Lightening (1984-1989). Both Squeekers and Lightening were abandon cats, who were dumbed beside the road when they were just wee-kittens. I used the following floss for Squeekers/Fast Lightening: DMC 310 & GAST Butternut Squash, Claret.
For the first ball of yarn I used WDW Peoria Purple, for the second ball of yarn I used WDW Romance and the third ball of yarn I used WDW Emerald.
The lettering was done with WDW Seaweed.
Originally I planned to use the Just Another Button Company buttons on this pattern until I decided to customize the cats. After spending so much time getting the coloring right, I could not bare to cover any of it up.
Now to mount it and cut the mats so I can get it ready to be framed.
I love this piece, Toni! I love how each kitty represents real kitties you've loved. I wouldn't want to cover them, either. It's perfect the way it is.
